VFW Post 5356 presented a donation to members of the Buckeye Trail High School band this week to support their upcoming trip to France, where they will perform in the official D-Day Commemorative Band. The selected students will join musicians from across the United States in honoring the 81st anniversary of the D-Day landings with performances at historic sites throughout Normandy. This years participants are Autumn Kahrig, Mckenzie West, Megan Yeckley, and Max Hoop.

During a brief ceremony at the school, VFW Post 5356 Commander commended the students for their achievement and emphasized the importance of remembering the sacrifices made during World War II. The funds will assist with travel costs associated with the trip. Band Director Doug Hanna expressed appreciation for the VFW’s support, noting that the students are deeply honored to represent their community and the nation at such a meaningful event.

Many local groups came together to help our young musicians including several local VFW post, the American Legion, the Lions Club and others. We want to wish these students the best and are proud to have them representing East Guernsey.
